Concluding the theme for the week on hobbies and careers, here is an interesting story that I want to share. Everyone aspires to be in a job that they enjoy. A job that unites the vocation and avocation. Well, landing a job that you are truly passionate about is the dream but for a few, it comes true.
Here is the story of Arushi Aggarwal, an Unnati employee, and how she turned her hobby into her profession. Arushi is an MBA in HR. She was working for a startup in Chandigarh as an HR executive until she had to quit the job due to the health issue of a family member.
So, since she had to stay at home; Arushi started exploring opportunities to work from home. This is where she came across the job opening at Unnati. She was inducted as a talent acquisition specialist but soon Arushi moved to a support role that involved her to manage social media postings, online job descriptions, etc. She was more comfortable with this role but the job was not her actual calling.
Along with joining Unnati Arushi also started taking painting classes. She was always interested in the painting and now with more time at hand, she decided to dedicate some time to her hobby.
Unnati releases a quarterly in-house magazine, and Arushi’s paintings were a regular feature in every magazine. This made her popular among all as a talented painter. So, back in 2019, Unnati was going through a rebranding phase. We re-launched our website and redesigned our logo. Also for social media, we needed visual creatives to be posted every day. Even though rebranding was done by an external partner, I was looking for an in-house person to look after daily creative needs. This was the turning point in Arushi’s life cause this is where the story gets interesting. Arushi experimented with designs on canva.com for Unnati and it was excellent work for a novice in this field. Her amazing designs soon made her the graphic designer at Unnati.
Arushi now exclusively caters to all designing requirements at Unnati and Podium including websites, social media banners, logo, etc. She once told me that painting makes her forget all worries and she is truly passionate about painting. So it is good to see how she successfully turned her passion into profession.
The story of Arushi is an inspiring one. What started as a hobby turned into a fruitful career.
