Hey Readers,
I am back!
Yes, it has been a while, and of course, I missed you all.
I took a break for some time to sort the age-old debate of quality vs quantity. Allow me to explain. I did not want to compromise on the quality and send out a below-average newsletter just so that I can maintain the daily continuity.
So, I have decided to change the cadence of this newsletter and make it a weekly one. This way, I can spend more time on research and focus more on the quality of the content.
How does that sound to you? Excited?! Me too!!!
Then let's begin...
WFH Blues: Tech to the rescue
It has been around 1 year and 3 months since we went into nationwide lockdown due to the coronavirus. Between waves of the virus, we all are mostly working from home.
But the experience of working from home has not been great for a lot of us. Some of you are still struggling to maintain a proper routine, are more often glued to the laptop (also because of increased workload), and finding it difficult to organize your work life.
After much research (as I said earlier, I am spending more time researching 😁) and experiment, I found that focusing on three areas of your life can help you follow an organized routine - Sleep cycle, Work routine, and Physical health. And these three simple apps have indeed made my day better.
Sleepyti.me
Getting a good night's sleep is harder than it sounds. You'd think that you could go to bed and wake up refreshed, but no. Nope. That doesn't happen. Instead, you find yourself watching Netflix, replying to comments on Instagram, etc. And as a result, you are in a state of constant tiredness.
If you want to regulate your sleep cycle then the solution is simple - Sleepyti.me. '
it's a web app that tells you when to go to sleep or get out of bed. The app chains the average length of human sleep cycles together and suggests a time between them. If you have trouble falling asleep on time and waking up early then give this app a go.
Google Tasks
If you use Gmail then this plugin is already installed and if not, then do it today. This is a quick and effective way of making a to-do list. Now, some of you may not believe in making a to-do list. But trust me on this, making one truly helps you get more work done and prioritizes your work.
(Don’t you…. judge me!!)
I have tried apps like Google Keep and Google calendar in the past to make my to-do list but I can assure you that Tasks is the best out of all.
Healthify Me
One of the core reasons why we are miserable working from home is lack of movement. You cannot go out for a casual walk and in some parts of India, gyms are closed down as well. Remember, all work and no play make Jack a dull boy.
I am an on and off user of the Healthify Me app. And I have tried a couple of health apps in the past but this one stands out from the rest. The app has an amazing array of workout videos that needs no equipment and can be done at home. You can choose workout tutorials suiting the body part you want to concentrate on, and track calories you burn.
Apart from this you can count your daily calories (it is one of the best features of this app), get an hourly reminder to drink water, stand up from your seat, etc - all these are part of the free plan.

I do not have the relieving letter from one company so I haven't mentioned the same in my resume, is that ok? - MM
Dear MM,
I can totally understand where you are coming from - many companies ask for a lot of documentation about each and every job you have had, and you may not clear the company’s internal verification process if you don’t have the relieving letter from one of your employers. But my general advice to job seekers is always this - be as honest as you can be in your resume. You don’t want to be in a situation where you end up getting fired over something trivial like a missing piece of information in your application form.
Here’s what you should consider when making this decision:
Are you applying for jobs with very old-school companies? They tend to be more demanding of paperwork - like relieving letters for every employment. If you are applying for a job with a younger company, they will be more understanding if you tell them that you don’t have the necessary documentary evidence for one employment experience.
How long was that job for? If it was a period of more than a year - then it will be more troublesome to explain what you were doing for that period of time, and it’s not worth trying to hire such a substantial experience. If it was for a couple of months - you may be able to comfortably get away with it.
Did you have an ugly separation from that company? If you were fired from that company or left on bad terms, then it could be risky to mention it. If there is a reference check done and they reach out to that company, then surely you will get a negative reference and that may lead to you not getting the offer.
My overall advice - if you did not have an ugly split with that company, then you should mention it. It’s not your fault that they did not issue you a relieving letter, and you should tell your interviewers upfront that you don’t have the relieving letter from that organization. If the company you are interviewing at likes your profile, they will most likely overlook it. Just make sure that you mention this up front and not after they give you an offer and ask for your documents.
