Hello,
A good relationship with your boss is absolutely necessary. But there are times you will find your work not being acknowledged because your boss favors someone else. The favorite is assigned important projects and gets to attend all conferences. This makes you feel deflated and discouraged. So is there a way to deal such a situation in office? Yes, here are a couple of things you can do.
Behave normally
Do not make it obvious by your words and actions that you dislike your boss favoring one individual. Be careful not to discuss your feelings with a fellow employee because such gossip travels fast and you do not want your boss to find out that you are talking negatively. Act as if you are unaware of any kind of favoritism and is least impacted by it.
Learn and grow
Take it as an opportunity to learn from the favorite employee. Observe his or her style of working and communication. Emulate the good qualities. But you do not have to mimic the person. Adopt practices when it seems natural to your work style.
Ask for feedback
Talk to your manager and ask for feedback on your work. You could ask questions like, ‘what would you like to see from me?’ or ‘what do you think are my improvement areas?’ Asking for feedback will make you aware of the things you need to work on and also will draw his attention on you. Make sure that once you ask for feedback you do work on it.
