Hi Folks,
It's been a week, since our last interaction. Hope you all found some time to contemplate on the career path you want to pursue. And many of you who are already on your chosen career paths might have tried evaluating if your next move would converge or diverge from your career path.
I spoke about knowing your strengths and weaknesses, and feedback is a natural progression to evaluation. All of us are in a constant endeavor to improve ourselves- habits that we want to change, skills we would like to develop, and a lot of areas where we would like to see positive changes.
Fall in love with feedback
However, often despite the best of our efforts, we get stuck and do not know how to move in the right direction. When you are stuck, you need feedback to tell where you are going wrong. Feedback in the dictionary, has been described as an advice, criticism, or information about how good something is.
Do you actively seek feedback at your workplace?
At the workplace, people are often hesitant to ask for feedback for fear of harsh criticism. At the same time, it is true that feedback is essential for your professional and personal growth.
So, how do you fall in love with feedback? Here's how.
Look at the larger picture
When you seek feedback, you will come across severe critiques. Do not get discouraged. Rather, look at how making improvements in the right direction will benefit you in the long run.
Ask the right person
It is equally important to seek feedback from people who are rightly placed to give you accurate feedback. Your critics are your best friend. Asking the right person will allow you to see value in implementing the feedback.
Remember, there is always room for improvement.
We all like to believe that we work best to our ability but this is not true. There is always room for improvement. However insignificant or trivial an input might be, incorporating changes will only make your work better.
Now that you have an idea about seeking feedback at work, it is important to understand how feedback from interviewers can help you improve.
Interview Tip: Ask for feedback
Facing an interview makes most of us nervous. But all of us want to ace it and sound confident. Here is a tip on how to do so.
Ask for feedback
Towards the end of the interview, you get the opportunity to ask questions to the interviewer. Do not be reluctant or afraid. Make the best use of the opportunity at hand and ask for feedback.
Why?
It will help you establish a good rapport with the interviewer, and you will be perceived as a stronger candidate.
It is your chance to respond to concerns or misconceptions the interviewer may have.
You demonstrate an eagerness to learn.
So, how can you tactfully ask for feedback. Take a look at the sample questions below:
Would you say I am a good match for the role?
What are you looking for in a candidate?
How do I fit into the role?
Irrespective of whether you land the job or not, striking a conversation with the interviewer will help you make a mark on him. You will learn about your shortcomings and be better prepared for upcoming interviews.
